TSCA Reform

TSCA ReformOvernight the House of Representatives passed the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act. The bill, which has been a long time coming, will modernize the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) for the first time in 40 years.

The TSCA reform will assure the nation’s consumers that the chemicals found in both household and industrial products have been properly evaluated and meet safety standards by scientists from the EPA. Some other amendments will include:

    • Establishing both clear and enforceable deadlines that ensure a timely review of chemicals.

    • Providing funding for the EPA to carry out the responsibilities.

    • Increasing public transparency of chemical information.

The bill has currently been sent to the Senate, where they will attempt to bring the bill up for a final vote later in the week.
