Sweden, France and the Netherlands RMOAs
Three countries within the European Union (EU) are starting Risk Management Option Analysis (RMOAs) for new substances under Echa’s public activities coordination tool.
The three countries are:
– France; and
– Sweden.
Netherlands
The Netherlands is currently assessing the substance indium tin oxide because of the public concerns about its properties that could affect both the environment and human health. This substance is used as a coating on mobile phones, LCDs, etc.
France
France is overseeing the substance phenanthrene because of its toxic and bioaccumulative properties. (PBT). This substance is used to make plastics, pesticides and dyes.
Sweden
The Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) is assessing lead compounds, a substance that is included in the REACH candidate list, but metallic lead is not present.
Several other EU countries are starting hazard assessments on substances that are suspected to having PBT properties.
