National Regulations Governing SDSs

In Canada the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) sets out the criteria for SDS’s. The requirements and standards for WHMIS are set out in the Hazardous Products Act and Hazardous Products Regulations. The regulations are administered and monitored by the Government of Canada, Department of Health (Health Canada).

GHS Implementation Status

Currently Canada GHS Standards include WHMIS 2022. Documents compliant with the previous GHS standard (WHMIS 2015) will require update prior to the end of the SDS transition period which is set for December 15, 2025.
