Mexico GHS deadline approaches

8 October 2018 is the final deadline for implementation of GHS in Mexico. At this time the mandatory standard NOM-018-STPS-2015 will enter into force, which implements the 5th revised edition of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The previous Mexican regulation governing the content of Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), NMX -019-SCFI-2011, is a voluntary standard which allowed for a wide range of hazard communication formats. The new standard mandates the creation of SDSs for hazardous products in the 16 section GHS format which will align much more closely with the hazard communication requirements in Canada and the USA.  Additionally, the standard establishes requirements for chemical hazard communication in the Mexican workplace including employee training requirements.
