India’s Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has gathered a committee of experts to create a plan regarding chemicals, regulation, management and pollution for the country.
The committee will produce a report that will provide advice to the ministry about chemicals that are imported, produced and consumed within India.
It will focus on:
– A policy frame, this will mainly be for chemical registration;
– Meeting the country’s obligations under the international treaties, and consent procedure for the shipment of restricted hazardous chemicals; and
– Assessing the country’s current needs, the effectiveness of existing regulations, and classification and labelling guidelines for chemicals.
Originally due in September 2017, the report deadline has recently been extended.
