Canada’s Microbead Ban
The Government of Canada has adopted a regulation that will ban the import, manufacture and sale of products for personal care containing plastic microbeads.
Following in the footsteps of the United States’ Microbead Waters Act, Canada will ban microbeads January 1 2018, that are equal to or below 5mm. Sale of cosmetic products containing microbeads will come into place six months later, on July 1 2016.
Canada’s NGO Environmental Defence programme manager has applauded the government’s action to ban microbeads, as it will stop millions of particles from entering the countries waterways.
