Japan’s GHS Classification Update

Japan’s National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (Nite), has published a list of 84 new and 95 revised GHS classification entries in the 2016/17 financial year.

Currently in Japan, the use of SDSs and Labels following the GHS is mandatory for certain mixtures and substances that are regulated by these laws:

–       The Poisonous and Deletrious Substances Control Law;

–       The Industrial Safety and Health Law; and

–       The Pollutant Release and Transfer Register Law.

Many companies that are currently operating in the country must also become compliant with the national standards, JIS 7252 and JIS 7253, on the classification and SDS/labelling. All classifications are available online either a html or excel files, while a full list of the entries is found on the Nite website.
