CCCR 2001 Hazard Symbols

The Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations (CCCR, 2001) help protect and inform Canadian Consumers about the toxic, explosive, flammable and corrosive chemicals found in their products. Toxic

 

Chemical Products that may contain a substance that possess a high health risk to the consumer if inhaled, taken orally or through aspriation. The company/person responsible for the consumer product must place the chemical in the correct sub-category and have the product labelled appropriately with the correct CCCR 2001 Hazard Symbol and additional information.

 

 

Explosive 

 

Pressurized Containers are products that may explode if the container reaches a certain temperature or is punctured, causing serious injuries from metal or other materials. To prevent health risks and injuries the pressurized container must contain the information in accordance of the sub-categories from the CCCR, 2001.

 

 

 

 

Corrosive 

 

Corrosive Products are those containing a chemical substance that can attack and burn any exposed body tissues and metals. Direct contact with these chemicals can lead to serious burns, blindness if the chemical comes into contact with eyes and could be fatal if taken orally. The products that may contain corrosive substances must be labelled with correctly with the correct symbol for household chemical products.

 

 

 

 

Flammable 

 

Flammable chemicals are those that will ignite near flames or heat that is of a certain temperature.  These products must be labelled and classified in accordance with the CCCR 2001 guidelines.
