US EPA issues final trichloroethylene risk assessment
This news update on trichloroethylene risk assessment is brought to you by Chemicals Technology.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a final risk assessment for trichloroethylene (TCE), identifying the health risk in use of spray aerosol degreasers and spray fixatives.
TCE was also identified to cause health problems to workers in small commercial shops where it is used as a degreaser and stain removing agent in dry cleaning.
The final TCE risk assessment was released following comments from the public and experts during an independent, scientific peer review.
It is developed as part of the EPA’s Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) work plan, which categorised chemicals for review and assessment based on potential risks to health and the environment.
